Village students celebrate Thanksgiving with Indian Pow-wow

powwow

Teacher Anne-Marie Reichert’s third grade class at Village Adventist Elementary School celebrated Thanksgiving on Tuesday, Nov. 23, with an Indian Pow-wow. For six weeks leading up to the event, the class was divided into four tribes: Cheyenne, Anasazi, Navajo, and Potawatomi. They prepared for the event by making decorations, practicing a skit including a Pow-wow march, and created an Indian Village.

Village School adopts local Berrien Springs-Oronoko Police and Fire Department

fire
The pre-school through first grade class the Village Adventist elementary School in Berrien Springs invited local fire and police officers to visit them Monday morning, Nov. 1. The officers were greeted by PK/K teacher, Cheryl Finkbeiner, PK/K assistant teacher Cara Perozo, and first grade teacher Beth Stevenson, along with 36 eager children.

In the spirit of the school theme, We Are His Hands, the school has adopted the Berrien Springs-Oronoko Police and Fire Departments. Each classroom is assigned a month to pray for and show appreciation to the service and sacrifice of the police and fire personnel. The students created a banner for display at the station, with painted hand prints, a picture, and words of thanks.

Fire Chief Bruce Stover, Child of Police Milton Agay, and Deputy Chief of Police Rick Smiedendorf, pictured above, were present at the ceremony and given the banner. The students then thanked the officers for “putting out fires, keeping them safe, getting the bad guys, and for giving speeding tickets.” They sang a song for the officers, and then prayed with them for their continued safety.
